I have always loved photographs and
what they can evoke. As I child I would sit for hours looking at
our family albums. My grandfather was a professional
photographer so I guess you could say photography is in my
blood. My interest in photography was further kindled in high
school when I took a class and discovered that I also had a
talent for composing great photos. I remember spending hours in
the darkroom, transfixed by the images slowly appearing before
my eyes as I gently moved the paper under the chemical.
Photography became my creative outlet in my
early 20’s when I bought my first SLR camera. My love of travel
and the outdoors took me to some amazing places and I always
documented my adventures with my trusty camera. I took some
photos for a friend’s wedding and everyone loved them. More and
more people started asking me to photograph their wedding and
each time my perfectionism pushed me to improve my technique.
It finally dawned on me that I could make a
profession of photography and would be doing something that I
loved! I jumped straight into wedding photography, the most
demanding and challenging job of a photographer! I rapidly
expanded from shooting weddings to portraiture and everything
else. I especially love creating beautiful portraits of people
in natural outdoor settings.
Today digital photography has drastically
changed how our images are produced but what makes a great
photographer has never changed. A great wedding and portrait
photographer is not only adept with their camera, but is also
skilled at working with people. Being a “people person” myself,
I love that photography allows me to meet new people and really
get to know them and their personalities. At the same time,
keeping up with changing trends and technology allows me to
produce the best possible images of my clients. I’m constantly
challenging myself to learn, grow and improve technique, without
losing focus on what it’s all about – people.
